Discover the teacher for you to transform your practice

Our teachers really do make the studio. You may suit a soft, gentle practice with a soothing teacher one day; then a really clear voice and guidance, or a knowledge based, science infused practice, and some days just pure fun.  Each teacher has their special gifts highlighted below

Not just a bio...

Tish & Lisa

When you enquire you will speak to either Tish or Lisa. We opened the studio in 2012, passionate to share the joys of yoga for all bodies and minds, not just the flexible and fit. And that one yoga class is not the same as another. It's all how you gel with the teacher. We hope you join the lovely Jiva community.  Classes are small so you will be welcomed even if you have never been on a mat before. Or if you are a hand-standing, seasoned pro.

Lisa Smith

Lisa's yoga classes include a creative flow building towards more challenging poses according to what you are looking for from the class. Classes usually incorporate vinyasa flow and dynamic yoga with elements of her passion – Ashtanga yoga, core strength vinyasa yoga. The core of every class is mindfulness.

‘I like to challenge myself and on my growing journey I bring my best tools into classes.  My classes are light hearted and fun’.

When Lisa isn’t teaching she is with her family or embracing London life, watching Chelsea FC or dreaming of Ibiza!

Tish Dodson

She teaches according to those in front of her, helping you to understand your alignment to receive the best energetic response from yoga. Or to achieve what may be challenging Pilates exercises. Classes usually incorporate a slow flow alongside Nutritious Movement(TM) and Anatomy in Motion techniques to aid physical healing.

‘I like to teach a class that helps you grow or change where possible, whether that be to get out of physical pain, let go of stress or tension or just generally feel easier about movement and life.  My passion is sustainable yoga so in each class I try to give something you can hold onto and use in every day life’.

When Tish isn’t teaching at Jiva Health, she is in her other business, Horsham Salt Spa, and working in a physio clinic in Horsham. She lives a full family life with 3 children and a dog, even though she says she's a cat person!

Harri (Angharad) Sydney

Harri has a gentle soothing voice that almost hypnotises you to get further in a yoga practice than you thought possible. She makes a challenging pose look like a floating feather and inspires you to do the same.

As an ex-dancer Harri came to yoga to recover from a career ending injury and completely fell in love. Yoga has become an integral part of her life, physically, mentally and spiritually, she aims to bring the benefits she has experienced through practice to her students. Her Vinyasa flow classes are dynamic, challenging and fun, focusing on alignment and breath – body connection, using her choreographic experience to create interesting sequencing. Her beginner classes are perfect for those with little or no experience of yoga whilst still retaining an element of playfulness.

Harri teaches Pregnancy yoga and Mum & Baby yoga focusing on supporting the steps to motherhood both physically and mentally to give women a sense of empowerment throughout pregnancy and beyond.  She loves seeing people getting stronger and building confidence. Learning to listen to their bodies and do what feels right for them in that particular class.

When Harri isn’t teaching, she can be found fully immersed outside in nature, at a music gig, or out bouldering.

Lon Gibbons

Lon is a warm gentle soul, who will truly welcome you with open arms. Nurture could be her middle name.

She explains how she used to reluctantly participate in sport, feeling embarrassed by inaccurate throws and catches or lack of pace. If this is you she will inspire you to find a love for movement. Movement at your own pace and without competition.  At different times she has embraced various styles of yoga from Restorative to Ashtanga to Bikram, but her heart is with a Hatha practice – this is her foundation for teaching. It is slow and intentional.

Her mission is to help you feel great in your body and have the energy to create a life you love. In her classes she encourages an awareness of the breath, tuning into subtle sensations in the body, taking time, adding new ways of doing a pose or breathing in a pose.

When Lon isn’t teaching, she will be gardening in her allotment, singing in a choir, spending time with family and friends and travelling wherever possible!

Eleanor Forder

Eleanor has been exploring, studying and practicing in the worlds of healing, wellness and self-development for 10 years. Her path has taken her in many directions, from physical development to emotional healing, and everything she teaches is based on her own journey towards wholeness.

Her magic ingredient is the power of community. She believes we have the opportunity to raise each other to our highest potential, individually and collectively.

She is passionate about helping people step into their fullest potential by releasing conditioned patterns and awakening to what truly moves them.

When not teaching, Eleanor will be taking part in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, weightlifting or simply enjoying free movement and dancing.

Katie Crawley

Katie creates inclusive classes to educate and bring awareness to holistic healing. And to bring fun into your everyday life.

She is passionate that yoga isn't to change or fix you, it's not a fitness trend based around asthetics. Yoga is here to connect you with your body, breath and mind.

Katie will offer you a class that is like a weekly sacred ritual. She is our youngest teacher who brings passion, fun and soulful guidance to each class.

Charlotte Thomas

Charlotte has been practising yoga for 12 years, after spending many years as a runner. She loves the precision and alignment of Iyengar yoga, along with its respect for ancient texts and traditional systems, which keep the practice endlessly interesting. Her classes are focused yet inclusive, with a relaxed, friendly feel.

Iyengar yoga is a brilliant practice to learn what you are doing in a given pose. It has a precise alignment focus.

Iyengar yoga used to have a reputation for quite fierce teachers. Charlotte is the opposite. She is warm and welcoming and you will be nurtured throughout her classes.

Tracey Mansell

Tracey is passionate about Ashtanga vinyasa yoga and strength training. And she incorporates such poise into the practice. She can break down the most challenging poses building strength through repetitions in a really fun and engaging way. She really reads how your body functions and which muscle groups you may need to access to get the most out of a pose. She is a brilliant teacher if you are intimidated by something and want to progress in your practice.

When she isn’t teaching she is likely to be upside down, and we do think she looks incredible for her age. You could not guess it! She lifts an immense amount of weight and then her more gentle periods are spent with her cat.

Yves Bouvy

Yves has a passion for learning and regularly practices with the most senior Iyengar teachers in the UK. He is passionate about seeing you, whatever your level, start to ‘get’ the integrity of a pose. He likes to think that the adjustments he is able to offer you can help you understand the direction of a pose, yet still move safely in your practice.

Yves is currently working on slowing the ravages of time! He is finding though, that through his regular yoga practice he can move with more ease, especially in his hips.

When not teaching yoga, he plays and teaches the flute. He enjoys ice swimming, long distance swimming, climbing, baking sourdough and cryptic crosswords.

Zoe Mitchell

Zoe will wrap you in the warm hug of yoga and sound. She has taken her practice and sessions around the world helping others reconnect and reset the mind and body. Using a connection with music and movement she creates a safe space for healing in movement and sound with the ability to work in subtle energy to help you find connection to yourself and find a peaceful balance within the stresses of day to day life.

Zoe is used to a lot of travel as an ex long haul flight attendant. For over 18 years her life was very much fuelled by jet lag and coffee from one hotel to another. Flying across many time zones in such a short period of time took its toll on both her mind and body, falling into a negative lifestyle and chaotic mindset and unbalanced work life ethic.

Her life has completely changed and she now facilitates healing through yoga classes and sound mediation sessions. She feels blessed through her own practice with so many wonderful teachers.

Faine Sinclair

Faine is a warm and friendly teacher having been taught by Stewart Gilchrist. Faine’s desire to share the practice of yoga with you arose from the profound positive shifts that yoga created in her own personal physical and mental wellbeing.

Her classes bring the ancient teachings and traditions of yoga into a modern context in a way that is fun, relevant and easy to apply so that the practice of yoga moves beyond the mat and into your everyday life for sustainable lifelong change.

Expect breath-led movements, mindful and creative sequencing, optimal alignment and often the exploration of yoga philosophy or mindset work weaved into the practice. Faine invites you to ‘be where you are’ – so her classes can be both dynamic and challenging, but also include plenty of modifications and options making them all inclusive and accessible for all.

Expect to breathe, move, sweat, tone, tune in, restore and leave feeling inspired!

She loves it when you just Let Go!  When she sees you join a class online, stressed or tight and uncomfortable from your day, and at the end of the session all relaxed and chilled. She teaches with lots of laughter and fun.

“Your body is a temple  ~  and you should always  be learning to worship and respect it!”

When not teaching, Doretta is outside in nature or riding motorbikes.
