Gait & Posture Therapy
Gait therapy looks at how your whole body moves - from your feet to your head. And how your movement patterns may be contributing to tension, restriction or pain. Anywhere in your body. Or poor posture.
Your body works as one connected system. The way your feet meet the ground, how your ankles move, how your hips and pelvis respond and how your spine and shoulders adapt can all influence the way you stand, move and breathe.
Using correctional exercises inspired by Gary Ward's 'Anatomy in Motion' and the movement work of Katy Bowman, we look beyond the area that may hurt to explore a root cause and how your body is moving as a whole.
A session involves:-
- An assessment of your standing posture and the way you walk
- Identifying areas that may not be moving as freely as they could
- Gentle movement and corrective exercises to reintroduce missing movement
- Simple exercises you can continue at home, designed to help you body find a more natural, balanced position

What will it help?
The aim is to help you body rediscover movement that may have become limited or lost. By improving movement options and bringing the body back towards a move balanced, comfortable position, we may be able to reduce unnecessary strain and help ease persistent aches and pains. We have worked successfully with people who have had -
Back problems (including disc issues and scoliosis)
Shoulder pain
Hip and knee issues
Foot problems like plantar fasciitis

How this differs
When you see how your walk or how you hold yourself (sometimes on a gait machine) there are often very noticeable movement patterns. For example you may move your upper body one way and not the other. You may be very obviously compressing areas of your back. You may not swing one arm. Tish has been watching people walk for over 15 years and will point out what you may not have realised. This is not done on a bed but seeing your movement patterns that may have contributed to pain and correcting these.
I was considering surgery for a slipped disc but after one session I had so much relief I decided not too. I knew I could move my way out of pain.
Helen
Amazing. My knee is so much better. I didn't realise it was linked to my feet. This has been a revelation
Jonathan
Tish looked at the whole picture. Even breathing! I'm walking with ease and feel loose!
