Make sure to squeeze in some time to look after yourself physically and mentally and enjoy what’s left of summer.

This time last year I went to a silent residential retreat: no phones, no TV, no talking….and it was amazing! By the end of the three days I felt totally refreshed and full of energy. But you don’t need to go to these extremes to feel like you’ve had a break. Have a look at our favourite ways to unwind below.

Our Top 5 Ways to Relax this Bank Holiday

1.Come to a yoga class

At Jiva Health of course! Yoga is an amazing way to unwind and release tension from the mind and body. Whether you love to get your sweat on in Dynamic Vinyasa or prefer a more chilled vibe at Restorative or Yin yoga, we have a class for you. We’re open as usual on Saturday and Sunday then closed on Monday. Have a look at the Wimbledon timetable here and book your place online. Jiva Earlsfield classes start 2nd September.

2.  Take a deep breath.

Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths and notice what’s going on in your mind. Let your breath flow in its own natural rhythm or have a go at some pranayama techniques. Just a minute or two or paying attention to your breath can transform how you feel.

3.  Go outside!

Getting outside in the fresh air is a guaranteed mood booster. It looks like we’re in for some typical wet British summer weather this bank holiday weekend so make sure you’re ready when the sun comes out and go for a walk, do some gardening or chill out on the grass.

4.  Pamper yourself.

Spend some time doing something you don’t always have time for whether that’s having a long bath, reading that book you’ve been meaning to read for ages or cooking something special. 5.  Have a digital detox.

Lots of studies link constant use of our smartphones with increased levels of stress, anxiety and insomnia. Give yourself a break by turning off the TV, your computer and putting your phone away, even if it’s just for an hour or two and notice the difference in how you’re feeling.
