Yoga gives you self love!

Happy Valentines Day to all the lovers, the happily marrieds, the lonely hearts and the single and loving it hearts… Like it or loath it, this week is all about the love wherever you look so why not embrace the opportunity to tell someone in your life that you love them, your husband/wife, child, mother, father, daughter, son or best friend forever! Most of all though tell yourself (or maybe you did with a stack of pancakes and syrup yesterday?!!)

This morning I read a great comment on a social media post on self love ‘self-love isn’t something we do it’s something we are’. We are told all the time that we can’t love others until we truly love ourselves and that we need to learn how to do that. I think sometimes we need a reminder, we need to check in with ourselves and how we are feeling, we need to drop into our heart space and feel that love if it’s not free flowing at a particular moment in time. But that love is always there, even if it’s a hidden a bit deep.

Today in my class we did a lovely heart opening practice with lots of yummy gentle flowy back bends and some longer held ones where we just checked into our heart space, breathing in and out of this place at the centre of the chest, visualising love energy in any colour that spoke to us of love – this was our opportunity to check in with the love we carry with us. Maybe try it for a few breaths today or maybe buy yourself some flowers (or wait till tomorrow, they’ll be cheaper!!!), run a bubble bath, buy (and eat!) a box of chocolates or go to a yoga class! Do whatever you want that says to yourself loud and clear ‘I am love today and everyday’!

We might have done a heart focus class today but whenever we step onto a mat we are giving ourselves the opportunity to step into love, through movement, breath and awareness we can truly become compassionate and loving to ourself and those around us.
